Technogarchs

We’re in an abusive relationship with the leaders of the world, in literally unprecedented times. That isn’t to say it doesn’t follow the patterns of our pasts, but technology has put us into uncharted territory.

CEOs, wealthy beyond all comprehension, with more capital than any person could spend in 1000 lifetimes, have access to all of our most intimate thoughts, feelings, connections. They know our deepest darkest desires because of the technology in our hands. Technology that they control with a vice-grip. And the ancient fucks in government, with their walkers, wheelchairs, caregivers, and dementia medicine, are multitudes richer because…

Because fuck you, that’s why.

They don’t need it.

They’re already on death’s door.

It’s not going to charity.

Their children don’t need it, they’re already set for life with all their myriad connections.

Their grandchildren too.

Paid off with bribes and insider knowledge because they believe they deserve it for having the resources to win a popularity contest in their district or state.

Giving the power over to people who can press a few buttons and access more about them and their loved ones than they could ever fathom.

Not all of them are ancient of course. Plenty of middle aged and younger representatives are selling us out for a pretty penny, lobbied by the fancy businessmen and businesswomen in their prestigious suits. All legal because they made it legal.

They’ve taken everything, these technological oligarchs. They have decided that their needs outweigh the collective, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

They don’t need every last shred of privacy they have willingly stolen from us. They never even use this power for good, like stopping pedophiles and murderers. And why would they? So many of them are the very worst of society, including the convicted rapist president who clearly preferred many of his victims underage as he partied with his best friend, one of the most famous sex traffickers ever.

No, the technogarchs don’t use this power and knowledge for good. They use it to quell any potential uprising against them taking and taking, demanding more and more of us every day when we are down to the last desperate morsels bestowed so graciously upon us by our cyberkings.

Keep us starved of the truth with the algorithm. Keep us blind to what’s really going on, so we don’t talk to one another and realize the glaring misery of our dystopia.

While it would be folly to imagine that any one system of government or group of people is living the ultimate life, truly at balance in terms of greed and nature, it is horribly deceptive to cut off our forms of communication and take away the potential connection we have as one world united. One planet, living as an insignificant spec of dust in space. Separated, like prisoners in cages. Every move watched, by Big Brother. Voluntarily, as we are as addicted to technology as they are lauding it over us.

Are they more afraid we would rise up against them? Take away their trillions? Destroy their lives as they have callously done to ours?

Or can they simply not get enough.

The ultimate addiction.

The ultimate power.

It’s never enough, never enough, never enough.

But what can we do?
